For the 30th anniversary of the Air Max 1, Nike invited twelve "Revolutionairs" to design the future of Air as part of Vote Forward, the online competition for the first ever Air Max designed by the community, for the community. The winner was Sean Wotherspoon, co-owner of consignment shop Round Two in Richmond and Los Angeles and lifelong Air Max fan, who brought together an Air Max 97 upper and the iconic Air Max 1 midsole and outsole in an amazing multi-color design that was inspired by Nike sneakers, hats and windbreakers from the '80s and '90s.
Wotherspoon, for whom community is everything, turned to his closest friends and family to help create a shoe that reflects his 'by the community, for the community' focus. Their epic brainstorm session led to what is surely this year's most anticipated release: the Air Max 1/97 VF SW. It features a corduroy Air Max 97 upper covered in multiple pastel panels, mini swooshes, denim pull tabs and interchangeable tongue patches. "VA -› LA" is stitched on the denim heel strip in honor of Sean's roots in Virginia and current home in Los Angeles. Providing the base is an off white Air Max 1 sole unit with a hot pink air bubble and a multi-color waffle outsole that matches the pastels of the upper. The pair is completed with a velour lining, "Have a Nike Day" logo sewn into the sockliner and three additional sets of laces.
The Sean Wotherspoon x Nike Air Max 1/97 VF SW will only be available via in-store and online raffle that ends at 7:00pm, Friday March 23rd. Good luck!
