Lapstone & Hammer is excited to formally introduce Numb Designs, a Philadelphia-based menswear brand cultivated in 2019 by Brandon McCall, with a special in-store pop up beginning Thursday, 6/10 and running through 6/17. The opening of the Pop Up Shop at Lapstone will be celebrated with a happy hour happening from 6-9pm on Thursday 6/10 featuring drinks provided by Two Robbers and Stateside Vodka and music by DJ T Sharp.
Numb reimagines Old World philosophies into New Age luxuries by incorporating gothic tones into high-quality fabrics. Their featured collection, created over this past year, truly embodies its name — “A Sign of the Times”.
Numb founder Brandon McCall always had a deep fascination with fashion, art, and creative expression. He was first inspired to create some of Numb’s earliest garments upon realization that most clothing he wanted didn’t exist. His goal with Numb was to create comfortable and quality pieces that were both reasonable and raw. Numb incorporates nuanced pieces based upon dark academia, macabre artwork, and philosophical/psychological discourse. McCall explains, “I’ve always questioned things. When I was drawn toward fashion design, I knew I wanted clothing that would showcase my certain cynicism about the world around me”.
As Numb has developed over the years, it has honed in on these very principles. Numb’s Renaissance began over the course of the pandemic, redefining the brand’s overall message and standard for production. Their newest collection, “A Sign of the Times”, features oversized hoodies, t-shirts, hats, and denim with fabrics and finishes from around the world.
From the occultist perspective, mirrors serve as passageways to other dimensions. The Mirror Hoodie beckons its wearer in its unique, heavyweight French terry. It features a boxy fit with a garment vintage wash and tan screenprint finish on the chest. All t-shirts featured in this collection carry out the same oversized boxy fit. The tees are designed with a slight drop shoulder made from 10.5oz heavyweight cotton to provide comfort and longevity for the user. The French terry and cotton materials, for both the hoodie and tees, are hand-selected from Los Angeles, CA ranging in a monochromatic color scheme of black, white and cream from sizes XS to XL. Lapstone and Hammer | Numb Designs Collab Tee features a The Mirror print with a twist - paying homage to Lapstone and Hammer as “connoisseurs of craftsmanship” of the city.
This 2021 collection also features Numb headwear. The collection includes two adjustable trucker hats and one grey, garment-dyed bucket hat. One of the infamous trucker hat designs features Numb’s classic spiral design while the other demonstrates all of our mindsets after this pandemic year: “Fuck Me I’m Numb”. The classic bucket hat design includes a leather barbed wire hand-sewn appliqué around the brim and the same puff embroidery across the center.
The Angel Denim illuminates a sublimation allover print illustration from Dante's "Divine Comedy" by Romantic artist Gustav Dore. The Angel elevates denim wear with its top 10oz denim quality finished with silver button hardware. A dramatic flared-cut meant for stacking is another characteristic of this particular piece.
