ALEALI MAY X AIR JORDAN 14 RETRO LOW SP "FORTUNE" SPECIAL IG RAFFLE

Aleali May is once again collaborating with Jordan Brand on a women's exclusive retro model rooted in her own personal history, the Aleali May x Air Jordan 14 "Fortune", and Lapstone & Hammer is running a special Instagram raffle for the release that aims to bring the shoe's story to life.  

The Aleali May x Air Jordan 14 "Fortune" and the accompanying apparel collection were inspired by jade bangles given to her by both of her grandmothers, but in a larger sense the project is a gift to the many strong women in the designer's life and community who helped shape her into the powerful and successful person she is today. “Throughout my collaborations, I always try to go back and say thank you to whoever was supporting me at the time”, May said. "Mimi (Tita Sue) and Granny showed me essential pieces of my identity. Stay down.. never forgetting where you came from. Stay consistent.. charging forwards, no matter what the roadblocks. Stay loyal..being true to who you are; becoming the person your younger self dreamed of."

In conceiving of the raffle for this release, we wanted to remain true to May's vision while encouraging a deeper engagement from our community than just the typical raffle signup. By bringing this raffle onto Instagram, we hope to create a space where our customers can shout out the women who had a profound effect on their lives while simultaneously entering for a chance to get these amazing shoes.

Shamaira Atkinson (@bbygirl.sham), who styled this shoot and modeled alongside her sister Lolita (@lolitalexx), was kind enough to share her thoughts on the influential women in her life and heirlooms that she will pass on:

One of the strongest people I know is my sister/best friend that I’ve known for 9 years. She is my diary, my sister, and my best friend all wrapped up on one. No matter what life has thrown at her she has shown me true strength, confidence and a healthy loving friendship with no judgement. I didn’t grow up with the traditional family set up, I was raised mainly by both of my grandmothers but once they moved away when I was 21 I was left all by myself. So ever since then the closest feeling I have to family is my best friend. No matter what I need she has been there for me every step of the way.
 
A piece of jewelry that I plan on passing down in my family is the gold wedding band that was given to me by my Grandma Carolyn which was once owned by my Great Grandmother Ruth. Both of them are some of kindest women that I have known. They are the ones that encouraged me down the path of fashion in the first place so I am forever appreciative to them.  I wish I could be a combination of all 3 of my grandmothers that raised me, nobody is stronger than them and I am grateful to have such solid women to look up to.
