LAPSTONE & HAMMER X UNITED WAY "STEP UP FOR STUDENT ACCESS" FUNDRAISER

Lapstone & Hammer is once again partnering with the United Way to benefit kids in our community with the Lapstone & Hammer x United Way "Step Up for Student Access" Fundraiser. We will be giving away 1 pair each of the Union LA x Air Jordan 4 "Off Noir", Salehe Bembury x New Balance 2002R1 "Peace Be The Journey", and Off White x Air Jordan 5 "Sail" to raise funds to purchase the devices required to support distance learning for local students in need. As we have done with past Lapstone Initiatives, we are seeking to harness the hype of three of the hottest releases of the year to create real change in our community. We feel it is our duty to activate much needed resources to students in Philadelphia and its surrounding communities that are in need of assistance.

This year the ongoing pandemic has thrown the whole world into economic chaos, with communities who were already economically depressed being hit the hardest. With schools either fully closed, or greatly reducing in-person attendance, and the majority of instruction moving online, many kids in these communities lack both reliable internet access and the proper devices needed to continue their education.

This "digital divide" between affluent communities who possess the necessary tools for virtual learning and lower income communities who do not, is one of the most pressing issues we are facing today. Children are literally being denied an education because they cannot afford the technology required to participate in their classes. This is completely unacceptable.

For this fundraiser we are re-teaming with the United Way to raise funds to provide access to the devices required to support distance learning in an effort to help close the "digital divide." We feel it is our duty to activate much needed resources to families and students in high need areas in Philadelphia and its surrounding communities.

Our goal is to purchase 100 devices - 50 Chromebooks and 50 T-Mobile wireless hotspots (with a one year subscription) - by raising $20,000. Principal Laurena Tolson of Add B. Anderson elementary school in Philadelphia has told us that while the Philadelphia Public School system has given tablets to most of the students, many do not have internet access to actually use them. In partnership with United Way we have also found many families that don't even have devices to use for virtual school. Therefore we hope to purchase 50 T-Mobile hotspots for our continuing support of Add B. Anderson School, and 50 Chromebook devices in support of United Way's Student Help Hotline.

This is a fantastic opportunity to transcend our collective love of sneakers and the culture, and bring the sneaker community together to motivate, inspire and affect real change in our world.
